As part of Emily A Clark's reader participation feature on entryways today, I decided to do a little sprucing up to my foyer.

The walls are Benjamin Moore's Celestial, a pearlescent glaze experiment (I'd never tried it before and am not sure I would do it again—anyone know how to avoid lapmarks with glazes?) that all-in-all still looks great and sparkles at night. Adding to the ambiance is Ballard's Moravian Star ceiling light—my favorite addition to the room! The painted black chest is the only furniture, and aside from that, there's no real space for styling or storage. So, I looked to the wall you see from my living room and thought it could use some attention. I hung a gallery of my grandmother's Wallace Nutting handpainted photographs and cozied a stool and a birdcage (a great find I picked up from Target years ago and painted Ralph Lauren's Lafayette) into the corner. The room has a sort of vintage mood now that I like. And the new look certainly makes for a much prettier welcome.
