italian holiday, fini

It's always hard coming back to reality, and I'm feeling very behind on work, laundry, emails, life. And it's not any easier coming home with a bad cold. I'm blaming airplane air. But, enough whining, I have to remember how incredibly lucky I was to enjoy the beauty of Italian history and culture for a little over a week. And a big thank you to for Rene from Cottage and Vine, Fran from Green Street, and Erica from Decorica for guest posting here while I was away! I really enjoyed their visits and see from your comments that you all did too. And I can't wait to catch up on all my blog reading. There wasn't much I missed while I was away, but I did miss that!

So, back to the vacation. I took a ton of pictures, and over the next few days I want to share some of my favorites for my fellow design-lovers.

First, beautiful doors. The work that went into these beauties amazes me. And they are a dime a dozen throughout Italy, but especially Tuscany. As a photographic subject, they've been done, but for me they never get tired.

The artistry that went into making these, by hand, with such care and attention, is so impressive. Even the most simple doors still show such skill. And the history. Many of these doors have certainly been used for hundreds of years. And I love that they're still in use and on display, another gorgeous entrance around every corner. Which is your favorite?

I'm sorry you have a cold but glad you had a great time and made it home safely. The doors are gorgeous and if I have to pick, the third from the bottom is my favorite.

I am gonna pick last one. looks mysterious and could be versatile when the time would come.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. All of the doors are magnificent! I cannot pick just one so... I vote for the second and last doors. So glad to hear you had a fabulous vacation and I am looking forward to more of your pictures.

Welcome Back!! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. And, on top of that, you get to come back to dreary weather. But, your post makes up for it - so beautiful! My favorite is #6!! Can't wait to see more of your pics! Oh, and thanks again for all your sweet comments....

I LOVE all the Italian doors. They're gorgeous. I recently did a similar post on doors I saw in Morocco ;o)

Yay, you're back. Glad you had fun. I love the second door, it's my fave, I think because of the deep color of the wood. So welcoming.

Hello, I just recently discovered your lovely site. These photos of doors are amazing. I love all of them, but the third one is my favorite. The color of the wood, the simplicity of the style, the roughness of the stone on the building and the way the brick step is worn are what appeal to me. Italy is lovely. I was there many years ago as a high school student, and would love to go back. When I do, I will keep my eye out for doors such as these and start a photo journal of them.
