living room dreaming

I've been having a little too much fun planning for a new living room. My current space is drab and tired. I've painted twice and still don't really love the wall color, and after three years with the same furnishings I'm more than ready for some freshening up. It's been an interesting challenge to try to imagine a space that feels cozy and warm for the winter yet light and airy enough to feel fresh in summer too. I based the room, very loosely, on this inspiration space from Sarah Richardson (who can do no wrong in my design book).

Soft colors, white architectural details, fireplace, painted furniture. Love! And here's my plan:

I punched up the color a bit with the peacock blue, which I want to paint my current glass-front credenza. That piece will also get new hardware—I love those coiled rope knobs from Anthropologie. The salon art wall is something I've wanted to bring into the room for a long while. I've also always wanted a fireplace, and my big regret with this house is that it doesn't have one, but this fireplace is the ideal solution as it burns gel fuel and can be mounted on any wall. The centerpiece of the room of course is my much longed-for daybed, which I may have to DIY, and that naturally will be layered with pillows and a yummy knit throw. The pretty natural bead chandelier will have pride of place centered over the daybed.

Oh, this room cannot come soon enough. And yet, my budget is just about zero! Hmmm, think I can somehow make it happen before the winter is over?

This is a great room makeover. I'm sure you can do it! Let me say your color scheme is absolutely sublime and the details are perfection! I'm really psyched to see it come together!

I adore Sarah Richardson. She is seriously amazing. Just wish HGTV (US) would pick up Sarah's cottage so I could get some new inspiration!

Beautiful! I love Sarah R. too:)

Just wanted to say hi! I found you through Bryn's blog - congrats on winning the give-away, love what you did with the fabric. I'm outside of Boston too (South Shore) and grew up in Pennsylvania (Doylestown) - just saw that you were there for Thanksgiving!!! Too funny! Looks like you have great style, now I'm a follower:)

I'm a huge Sarah fan, too. Your inspiration room is great, and I can imagine a cabinet in that blue would add something remarkable to your room, much like Sarah's did in her's. You can do it -- paint is cheap, start there. I'm forever trying to make things happen on nothing. Keep the faith and you'll find a way, or the way will find you!
