pink storm and lady in red

This weekend I really and truly got out in the garden and gots lots done. Sunday especially was a gorgeous blue-sky day perfect for getting ditry and for checking on the progress of all that's coming up now in the yard—from ferns and bleeding heart to climbing hydrangea and lily of the valley. But the most fun part of my weekend was my trip to Weston Nurseries. How is it possible I'd never been there before? Well, those days are over. The variety of plants was just awesome. I had been looking for a flowering quince forever, and I finally found it here.

Of course, it came home with me. Chaenomeles Pink Storm is fruitless and thornless and produces these amazing double blooms. I did a little internal happy dance when I saw this plant.

And Hydrangea macrophylla Lady in Red found a spot in my front yard. You can never have too many hydrangeas. If you're in the Boston area (heck, if you're anywhere in Massachusetts), I highly recommend a visit out to one of Weston's garden centers. A totally enjoyable (though maybe not cheap!) day out!

Sounds exciting, Casey. Do they sell planters? I'm on the hunt for some nice planters and home depot doesn't cut it!!

I love hydrangeas and they look so beautiful dried in the fall. If only I didn't have a brown thumb when it came to caring for them. My mom bought be a beautiful one last year and I think all I did was look at it and it died.

I'm so jealous of your green thumb.
This is our first spring in our new house and it has been fun to discover what all the mysterious little sprouts around our yard bloom into :)
