a peony from the garden

Yesterday was a good day to check out what's going on in the garden. I staked my top-heavy peonies and decided to cut some big blooms too. All my peonies are bursting into bloom, and some are just about to.

This pretty bud was so sweet, I decided to bring it in and sort of float it in a pretty bowl with a few glossy peony leaves. Can't wait to see it in a day or two as it slowly opens. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Hope you find some time to enjoy the little, beautiful things in your world this weekend!

Happy weekend to you Casey! Your peony is perfectly beautiful! Ours were smashed this year by the rain. You were smart to stake them early.

I'm so jealous of those of you who can grow peonies! Those and lilacs just don't do well in the Bay Area...
You should take a break this weekend. You've been so busy!

What a gorgeous bloom! My mother grows peonies in her yard and I am always envious of all her blooms. I have not tried to grow them in my yard but I think it would be too hot for them.

Have a fabulous weekend!

I used to have a peony plant in the garden of my townhouse..I love them but they are always covered in ants. Then I read somewhere its the ants that crawl all over then that makes them bloom.. so keep us posted It will be interesting to see if it blooms without the ants...I might even plant one in my cottage garden..Love your blog Frances
