transom windows

I am always a fan of rooms with lots of natural light, and transom windows are a great way to enhance that in any space. Stationary window panels over a door or window, transoms have been used that way (to add light as well as ventilation) for ages; they happen to be found in lots of the old, character-filled, classic homes I love. Just like my longing for a fireplace, someday I'd like to have a home with transom windows. Someday!

And to prove that transom windows don't have to be traditional, here's are a few gorgeous modern versions. They totally work in any style architecture. Which makes me love transoms even more.

The country living photo is making me rethink my dream of white kitchen cabinets. Thanks for sharing and for teaching me a new term!

I agree, Casey! I'd love to add a few more when we remodel our kitchen.
Man, my "Kitchen Wish List" is getting long :(

I never knew what those windows were called, all I do know is that I love them. I like the detail and how it brings in more light to a space. Great photos!

I want them all! Would love to add a transom window above the French doors in our kitchen. Great collection of inspiration!

I love our transom windows in our great room. I can close the blinds and still have privacy and light when needed. They'll be a nice addition to your dream home.
