obsessing over a certain piece of furniture

In the midst of all the other stuff going on in our house, with the upstairs getting painted and recarpeted and the kitchen reno really getting started (more on that later!), I am skipping right ahead to baby's room and cannot get this console-turned-changing table spotted in Traditional Home out of my mind.

With a changing table topper set on the surface, this console is the perfect changing table in my opinion. Everything's open and accessible with baskets (no drawers or cabinets to bother with opening and closing). But it's also so, so pretty with the rustic washed grey finish and slightly antique feel, with not-too-ornate paneled drawer fronts and turned legs.

So now I'm on the hunt to try to find something similar. I say similar because the source guide in the mag says this is "adapted from" an Aiden Gray piece. Meaning I can't just go out and buy it as is. It's custom. And I'm sure it'd be more than a bit out of my price range anyway. (But don't worry, I've already scoured the Aiden Gray site anyway and didn't find it.) I might have some luck at flea markets/antique stores. Or maybe Michael feels like taking on another project? I could not do that to him! But seriously, this piece needs to be in baby's room. I'll be on the lookout all summer. Wish me luck.

I love it too. How about that piece of art and the little table!? The baskets would be wonderful. Perhaps a little more shallow for super easy access. I bet you'll find a great boned bargain piece and could paint it with gray chalk paint for the same look. Imagine the fun you can have updating the paint as the piece moves around your house in the future. I can't wait to see your nursery!

Are you familiar with World Market? They always have awesome console options, with the grey wash you like. I just looked over there and they don't have anything exact but there were some things you could adapt. They always have great sales too, including free shipping. Good luck!

Have you ever tried World Market? I've shopped there for years and always find things that people ask "where did you get that"? They have awesome console tables and a lot of furniture in the grey wash you like. I just checked and they don't have anything exact right now, but there are definitely some things you could adapt. Good luck!

It's such a great piece! So much smarter than the single-use changing table I bought when the kids were babies! In 2 years they outgrew it so it was sort of a waste. I love your idea and I know if anyone can find /re-create it, you can!

I bet you'll be able to find something similar to this piece. I love the idea of using a piece of furniture as a changing table rather than an actual changer. And I can't wait to see what's going on with your kitchen.

I have to admit that this is probably the best changing table idea I've seen. I mean you really only use it for a year or two anyway before they get to long to put up there. If you do find something with drawers, it wouldn't be the end of the world either, because when your little one is pulling up, the contents of those baskets will be all over the floor every day. :) Truly, this does make me smile to think about, because it is so dang cute to think about you finding your bebe amongst a pile of diapers and clean clothes.

It's a beautiful piece that you would want to put anywhere in your house! Seems like you should look for a kitchen work table (a small island substitute) and maybe you'll find the right thing. Something along these lines but with more shelves and drawers - http://www.worldmarket.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12180009
